Peacock Dance Productions offers professional, courteous, fun-filled Alberta-based dance festivals/competitions! We strive to ensure each one of our studios has a positive learning experience at each of our events.

Our events fill up quickly so we encourage you to enter early to avoid disappointment. We work on a first come, first serve basis - there are no “saving of spots.” Emailing personally to reserve a spot will not be accepted as registration – no exceptions please.

Classifications:

*PERFORMANCE DIVISION

This division is for the dancer who has danced on a more recreational basis and takes less than 7.0 hours of training per week. Training includes all technique, choreography, stretch and private lessons at all studios and/or schools the dancer takes classes at. Dancers who have previously danced competitively are not permitted to enter this division even if their current hours of training are less than 7.0 hours per week.

*COMPETITIVE DIVISION

This division is for the dancer who has danced competitively and is taking more than 7.5 hours of training per week. Training includes all technique, choreography, stretch and private lessons at all studios and/or schools the dancer takes classes at. Dancers must be a minimum age of 8 years old to compete in this division. The following levels apply for all solos, duets, trios and groups. Please do not include training before the age of 6 years. You MUST include the current year of training - there are no zero years or 0.5 years of training.

*If any entry includes BOTH performance and competitive dancers, the group entry must be entered in the  Competitive category,

 

YEARS OF TRAINING

BEGINNER - 1 - 2 years

JUNIOR - 3 – 4 years

INTERMEDIATE - 5 – 8 years

ADVANCED - 9+ years

ADULT – 19 years of age +

 

SOLOS

Dancers will be entered into the same classification level for all solos. For example, if the dancer is an advanced jazz dancer, they must enter ALL solos in the advanced categories. (Exceptions: “Tap” – enter based on years of training in tap / Acro – average of years of acro training and other disciplines).

 

 

DUETS, TRIOS, & GROUPS

To determine the years of training of duets, trios and groups, please use each dancer’s TOTAL years training, NOT training per discipline.

 

Categories

​

The maximum acro elements allowed in non-acro entries is three.

ACROBATIC:

A routine that incorporates acrobatic techniques and tricks. The level is determined by the average of acrobatic & year of dance training.

 

CHARACTER BALLET:

A routine consisting of ballet steps and technique. The dance has to tell a story or have a definite theme throughout. No pointe work is allowed in this category.

 

CLASSICAL BALLET:

A routine strictly based on ballet steps and technique. No pointe work is allowed in this category.

 

CONTEMPORARY:

A contemporary routine incorporates aspects of movement from different genres such as jazz, modern and ballet. Level is determined by total years of dance training.

 

JAZZ:

A routine incorporating mostly jazz technique. Level is determined by total years of dance training.

​

LYRICAL:

A lyrical routine must portray strong emotions using a combination of ballet and jazz technique. Lyrical song choices must include lyrics. Level is determined by total years of dance training.

 

MODERN:

A routine consisting of a collection of highly expressive style of dance that challenges the structured dance technique of classical ballet. Level is determined by total years of dance training.

 

OPEN:

This category is for any routine that does not seem appropriate in any of the above-mentioned categories. (A routine that should be entered in one of the other genres, cannot be entered into this category). Level is determined by total years of dance training.

 

PRODUCTION:

Routine with 15 or more people. Any discipline or combination thereof may be used. There must be some change in routine; for example, props, costume changes, music).

POINTE:

Character, classical and contemporary pointe will be put into the same category. Level is determined by total years of dance training.

 

STUDENT CHOREOGRAPHY:

This category is designed for students who choose to choreograph their own solo without the assistance from another student, teacher or choreographer. The solo must be an original routine and not taken from any other source. Level is determined by total years of dance training.

 

TAP:

A tap routine should consist of 95% tap technique. No jingle taps are allowed. Tap sounds must not be pre-recorded with music. Level is determined by total years of tap training.

 

HIP HOP:

Is a routine that includes hip hop, house, street jazz, break-dancing elements/technique.

Level is determined by total years of dance training.

 

MUSICAL THEATRE / VARIETY

Includes routines with singing, lip-syncing, dramatization, stage, etc. Level is determined by total years of dance training.

 

ADULT

Where one or more dancers are adults. Adult dancers are defined as a dancer 19 years of age or older.

 

FOR EXAMPLE:

IF A DANCER IS AN ADVANCED JAZZ DANCER (9+ YEARS OF TRAINING),

INTERMEDIATE BALLET DANCER (5-8 YEARS OF TRAINING), AND HAS A SOLO IN BOTH DISCIPLINES, BOTH SOLOS MUST BE ENTERED AS “ADVANCED”

Regulations

REFUND POLICIES

​

Entry fees are non-refundable. Credits, in the name of the studio, are available for withdrawal due to medical reasons only. A doctor's note must be provided. Credits are valid for one year and can be used by the studio for future entry fees payable.

Studios will receive a refund should the event be cancelled.

There are no refunds for cancellation of entries by the studio.

GENERAL POLICIES

  • This is an invitational dance festival where we reserve the right to accept or deny entries.

  • The festival reserves the right to add or delete days dependent on the amount of entries received. NO REFUNDS will be given should a studio decide to withdrawal because of the added/deleted days.

  • Teachers are responsible for their own music. Please ensure that your music is available in digital format and that you have a backup. .

  • Please note that if you choose to enter dancers ages 5 years and under into the regular categories, NO PROMPTING OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED. If you wish to prompt these dancers, please enter them into the “Future Stars / Tiny Dancers” category of the event.

  • The age of entrants will be governed by the age of the dancer as of March 1st, 2026. For example, 8.50 will be entered as 8 yrs / 8.51 entered as 9 years of age

  • The studio is responsible for entering their routines into the correct categories and divisions. Please ensure that you are using ALL years of training received at ALL studios.

  • There is no competing against oneself (same age, same category).

  • Re-dances will be allowed only if the routine is less than half finished. In case of technical difficulties or costume malfunctions, re-dances are allowed. Exceptions are at the organizer’s discretion.

  • Props are allowed in all categories - no dancers or live animals may be used as props. A maximum set up time of 1 minute and take down time of 1 minute is permitted. .

  • An MP3 hook up will be provided. No live accompaniment is permitted. Teachers are responsible for playing their own music.

  • The Events reserves the right to run up to 45 MINUTES ahead of schedule. Please be sure all routines are properly prepared and ready in plenty of time. There will be no re-dances or refunds for not being backstage for your number.

  • No flash cameras, film, video equipment, or any other recording devices will be allowed in the theater during festival. Any person found using such equipment will be subject to possible disqualification of their child/studio from the festival and will be asked to leave the theatre.

  • All decisions by the adjudicators and timers are FINAL. No one is permitted to speak with the adjudicators and/or writers during the festival. Anyone infringing on this rule will be subject to disqualification of their child/studio.

  • Stage rehearsals are not permitted during the festival.

  • Good sportsmanship and proper conduct is mandatory. Any offenders will be removed from the auditorium.

  • Parents are not permitted backstage or in the practice area.

  • Teachers & dancers are to be considerate of others in the practice area. Practice in order of the program.

  • Peacock Dance Productions will not be responsible for lost or stolen articles.

  • Peacock Dance Productions does not tolerate bullying of any sort towards staff, participants or spectators.

  • Peacock Dance Productions reserves the right to disqualify anyone infringing on the rules.
